CR Classification Society (former name: China Corporation Register of Shipping), also known as CR, was founded on February 15, 1951 in Taipei, Taiwan as a non-governmental and non-profit-making technical organization which performs, among other things, the following functions: Classification Survey, Statutory Survey, Technical Consultation, Independent Survey and ISO 9001 Certification. From May 2, 2014, in order to provide full range of services, the English name has been changed to "CR Classification Society". Our objective is to provide excellent techniques, high efficiency and cordial services. So far, the CR register listed around 400 ships totaling about 4 million gross tons.

The quality policy of CR is to promote the highest standards in the safety of life and property at sea and to prevent pollution to the marine environment. In order to achieve and maintain this policy, CR has developed and established an internal quality system based on ISO 9001 standard requirements. The quality system has been audited and certified by the Bureau of Commodity Inspection and Quarantine (BCIQ). In addition, CR was certified by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications to have met the minimum requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) resolution A.739(18), Guidelines for the Authorization of Organizations Acting on behalf of the Administration, and have complied with IMO resolution A.789(19), Specifications on the Survey and Certification Function of Recognized Organizations Acting on Behalf of the Administration. In fact, what we have been doing with respect to quality service improvement is in parallel with that the members of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) have done with IACS Quality System Certification Scheme (QSCS) as guidance.

By applying these requirements, CR wishes to render best possible services to ship owners as well as national administrations in respect of classification and statutory work respectively. CR realizes that to improve our service quality so as to be able to better serve our clients is a constant and never-ending effort and the national administrations which have recognized us as an authorized organization will find that we deserve their entrustment.
